Sports Massage Therapy: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Sports massage therapy is designed to help athletes prevent injuries, improve performance, and aid recovery. There are three main types of sports massage:

  1. Pre-Event Massage: Given before an event to warm up muscles, improve blood flow and flexibility, reduce anxiety, and increase focus. The pressure is light to moderate.

  2. Post-Event Massage: Given after an event to reduce inflammation, promote recovery, and relieve soreness. The pressure is moderate to deep.

  3. Maintenance Massage: Regular massages (often weekly) to prevent injuries, improve performance, and promote recovery. The pressure is moderate to deep.

Each type serves a specific purpose, and consulting a therapist can help determine which is best for your needs.
